HESSLE 57, STANLEY RODILLIANS 13
Hessle ran up their highest score of the season with a 57-13 victory
over Stanley Rodillians at Livingstone Road in Yorkshire Division
Four. Mike Ayers crossed for a hat-trick of tries and actually touched

It was Rodillians who opened the scoring with a penalty goal but
Hessle replied in the ninth minute when a kick through by Rob Kitchen
bounced awkwardly for the visitors' defence and Aaron Stone was on
hand to pick up and touch down for a try. Hessle attempted to run the
ball out of their own '22' but Craig Poucher's pass was intercepted
and despite a despairing tackle by Danny Smith, the Rodillians
stand-off went over for a try and added the conversion.
Hessle replied when Kitchen fielded a Rodillians '22' drop-out and set
off on a jinking run before offloading to Ayers who burst past three
opponents for a try. In the 27th minute Ayers was involved again in a
move carried on by Stuart Crooks and Josh Moore was in support to
speed away on a 30-yard run for a try, goaled by Kitchen. Rodillians
landed a penalty to make it 17-13 at half-time.
A blistering start to the second-half saw Hessle score three tries in
ten minutes without the visitors touching the ball. From their own
'22' Hessle broke away through Stone, then Kitchen ghosted his way
past three opponents and linked with Liam Maughan who outpaced the
cover in a 35-yard touchline dash to score and Kitchen converted from
wide out. Stone slipped a one-handed pass to Lewis Hawkes who shot
through a gap and galloped 25 yards for a try, goaled by Kitchen.
Hessle made it 38-13 to put the game out of reach when from a line-out
on halfway Ayers broke through a gap and charged 30 yards before
delivering the perfect pass to Poucher who accelerated away and made
it to the line to touch down under the posts and Kitchen goaled.
Smith intercepted a visitors' pass and raced to halfway were he handed
on to Stone who sprinted away and managed to ground the ball under the
posts despite the attention of the Rodillians centre. In the 64th
minute Joe Donkin made ground with a powerful run and Ayers took the
pass to charge over for his second try with two opponents hanging on.
Kitchen converted to make it 52-13. The final try came when Smith made
a break on the left and Ayers powered over to complete his hat-trick.
