Phoenix Too Hot For Hessle
Ellis Makes Debut
ROTHERHAM 29, HESSLE 0
Hessle had nothing to show for their efforts as they went down to a
29-0 defeat at promotion-chasing Rotherham Phoenix in Yorkshire
Division Four. On a dry, hard pitch at the home of National League
side Rotherham Titans the visitors stuck to their task but were up
against it as they struggled to secure any worthwhile possession.
Aaron Stone, Rob Kitchen and Danny Smith figured in a promising move
which ended with Kieran Ellis tearing down the wing before being
halted.Stone was then yellow-carded, somewhat harshly, for a high
tackle and during his absence Rotherham moved the ball out wide to the
left-winger who scorched over for a try which was converted.
Rotherham dominated possession with Hessle struggling in the line-outs
and scrums and the hosts scored a second try in the 26th minute
following pressure on the visitors' line to make it 12-0 at the break.
Lee Rollinson found touch deep in the hosts' territory but Hessle were
pushed off the scrum and Phoenix broke away to score. The goal made it
19-0. Smith and Davey Robinson ran strongly as Hessle looked for a way
through the home defence but in the 61st minute the ball was moved out
wide across the Rotherham backs and the wide open spaces ended with
another try being scored.
Hessle, with Mike Ayers, Joe Donkin and Rob Kitchen tackling
determinedly, kept Phoenix at bay but eventually the pressure told and
Rotherham crossed for their fifth try in the 75th minute. The visitors
finished the game with a final surge near the home line without
#On a Positive note 17 year old Keiron Ellis made his debut for the club with a fine performance playing on the wing he showed no nerves and almost scored and pulled off some great defence
